Unexpected delays in our life back at the Grand Canyon gave us a surprise opportunity to delay our return flight. We went birding…
While looking at scores of common birds in the brush, this Yellow-billed Cuckoo popped up into view and showed us, repeatedly, how it gleaned white, fuzzy caterpillars, rubbed them bare against branches, and gulped them down in several bites. Then it just perched there and let us observe it in the Pennsylvania gray. We watched the bird sit there for about 20 minutes before walking away. Look at those plumes!
This Cape May was a lifer, and it was in the back yard. Then we saw a hundred more.
Unseasonably early Pine Siskins gathered in muddy tire ruts near Pine Grove Furnace.
