Another San Diego Pelagic, October 5, 2013

Two weeks ago, Brandon, Anne and I went to San Diego for another pelagic cruise – Anne and my third this year! It was a beautiful day, calm waters and winds, perfect conditions… And for the first time, I got sick on a boat, so that put a damper on the middle of the day.

Here are some photos from that 12-hour Point Loma pelagic of October 5th:

First, some oystercatchers on the jetties at the harbor in San Diego. This grouping including a likely American Oystercatcher x Black Oystercatcher hybrid, though that isn’t absolutely certain judging by these photos.

A Peregrine Falcon was chasing shearwaters well off shore, and in turn being chased by gulls.

This is the summer of the booby in California and here we encountered a Brown Booby.

Jaegers/skuas were everywhere on this trip, sometimes with great, close looks.

One of the big highlights of this trip was the Red-billed Tropicbird.

Common Dolphins and seabirds created an incredible spectacle toward the end of our trip.
